چکیده

INTRODUCTION Reconstruction of the soft tissue surfaces of the ear and mastoid bowl can be challenging. From simple canal wall down mastoidectomies to more extensive reconstructions after ablative surgery and radiotherapy, the reconstruction options are limited. Several variations of posterior auricular artery based flaps, such as the “Singapore swing” and the “revolving door” are used for reconstruction of the auricle. The temporoparietal fascia flap is frequently used for temporal bone soft tissue coverage. The latter requires additional incisions that can lead to alopecia and increased operative times. For several years, we have used a pedicled posterior auricular artery fasciocutaneous (PAAF) island flap developed from the region of the postauricular incision to resurface the bone of the external auditory canal and mastoid bowl.

Outcome of Thumb Reconstruction Using the First Dorsal Metacarpal Artery Island Flap

BACKGROUND  Reconstruction of complex soft tissue defects of the thumb, with exposure of tendons, joints or bones, has always been a difficult task. We evaluated the functional and esthetic outcomes of 1st dorsal metacarpal artery island flap in reconstruction of post-traumatic soft tissue defects of the thumb. METHODS Between January 2012 and June 2014, fifteen patients with co...

Submental Artery Island Flap in Reconstruction of Harde Plate after wide Surgical Resection of Veruccous Carcinoma. Two case reports

Introduction: Reconstruction of intraoral soft tissue defects is important in restoring function and esthetic. In large defects, there will be demand for regional pedicle flaps or free flaps. Hard palate separates nasal and oral cavities. Due to the small surface area between flap and remaining palate after surgical resections, optimal blood supply of the flaps for hard palate reconstructions ...

Anatomical and Clinical Study of the Posterior Auricular Artery Angiosome: In Search of a Rescue Tool for Ear Reconstruction

BACKGROUND The retroauricular tissues have been used for a long time for ear reconstruction, but the anatomical bases of flaps of this region are not completely clear. The aim of this study was to estimate blood supply area and location of this on the skin and fascia retroauricular dependent of posterior auricular artery (PAA) to establish safe margins to design flaps for auricular reconstructi...

Reconstruction of Lateral Mandibular Defects with Soft Tissue Loss: The Role of the Submental Flap

Introduction: Mandibular continuity defects after pathologic resections or traumatic events are difficult cases for reconstruction. Defects involving both hard and soft tissue loss are more challenging, because of problems in soft tissue coverage. The role of the submental flap in this regard is presented.   Materials and Methods: In a retrospective study from the archived files of Ghaem Hospi...
